Closure of section "Questions"
Page 1 of 1 • Share
Hi,
I regret to announce that I've decided to close the section related to asking questions / support. I decided on this, because this forum wasn't originally supposed to be a support forum, but a forum for developing, designing, and collaborating on projects. Don't worry, if you're having problems with a specific project here, you're free to reply to that topic asking for help.
For any other problems relating to your forum, be it questions or major problems, I suggest that you ask for assistance on the support forum for Forumotion. I'm more likely to see your request there anyway.
Thanks for your understanding and see you.

I would like to politely ask you to re consider.

Ange, I do not like the support forum. PLease, do not close that section.
Alright here you go:
https://fmdesign.forumotion.com/t344-re-styling-a-chatbox-with-css-from-scratch
With that one, not only would I not have recieved help, but I also probably would have pissed a few people that seem to hate Avacweb off.
https://fmdesign.forumotion.com/t278-code-subsitute-for-foe-feature
That one I may have gotten some help, but wouldn't have been as effecient and probably had a few people questioning me about my intentions there or saying it was impossible.
Finally: https://fmdesign.forumotion.com/t296-best-way-to-create-an-advanced-html-page
That one I would have recieved help with, but it would have been a ton of bumping *waiting for you* or just ended up with a bunch of other unhelpful suggestions or posts of people again questioning my intentions.
All 3 of those ( the 1st one especially though) are examples of how I could ask things that just wouldn't have gotten as effecient as help or answers as they were given here on your forum Ange.

Hmm.. You have a point with the Avacweb one. I wont lie though, probably a year or two back I would've said the same thing. I think some people can be frustrated when someone asks for help for another persons product, especially when there's nothing they can do to help with it, so they send them to the person who understands it ; the programmer.
The other two, you're right, you would've gotten help, but there probably would've been some erroneous answers until you finally got a solid reply. Personally I'd just ignore those messages that aren't helpful and tag someone you know can help. I usually try to look at every new topic, but sometimes things can slip past me if I'm busy. Chances are 99% I'll see the topic if you tag me though.
80% of the time when someone says something is impossible, they never tried to achieve the impossible to begin with. The other 20% consists of those who tried to face the impossible, but failed.
Anyway, I'll give you a deal. From here on, if you ask a question on the support and your topic becomes garbaged, or locked, or receives no reply for a week, then you can open a topic here and party.

Well to tell you the truth Ange, I haven't been practicing or dabbling in css yet. I could always code with html, but when its a big code and everything is bunched together, I just need to have it seperated into smaller chunks for me to read it and understand it fully. That is the reason I have trouble with the templates and reading them, they are so bunched together and its so hard to read.
If we do have a question and go through the procedure you listed above, where should we put the question itself?

Ah, it's no problem. To be honest, I bet it's harder trying to work with markup languages like HTML and CSS on a tablet. On the computer, you can get Notepad++ which is a nice IDE for writing markup, scripts, etc.. The syntax highlighting and indentation makes things a lot easier to read.
The templates are messy looking, but since I spent so long working with HTML I can usually read it like an English sentence. But yeah, spacing everything out and having good indentation can make it REALLY easy to read. For example, instead of writing your code like this :
You could write it like this :
As you can see, it makes it easier to tell which element is the child. ( div > a > text, although there's no text selector ) ^^
CSS however, is naturally neat. Unless you plan on writing everything on one line. If you had developer tools on your tablet you'd have a much easier time getting the selectors you need so you can experiment with CSS. Chrome and Firefox have nice tools, being that you can write CSS in their development tools and see the changes being made to the style as you write.
In regards to a question like that, we could discuss it in general discussion. I don't mind discussing markup and programming.

Yes it is true, it is hard to code much of anything from a phone or tablet, however, if it is a small code, one could modify it a little bit. One would have to be very careful when they do that though. Whenever I need to update a code, I usually wait until I get on the school computer, then I can modify stuff more easily. Thats what I do for the featured stations homepage, even then I test the updates on my test forum first .
Coooool !! If you want some good beginner learning websites, these ones are pretty good :
http://www.w3schools.com/
http://www.quackit.com/
I've never used code academy, but I've heard good things about it. It might be good for you since it offers interactive learning.
https://www.codecademy.com/
I use MDN often for additional information ( I'm starting to contribute too ), but it's a bit more technical so I'd only look at it when you have a good understanding of everything.

Lastly, you can always ask me for help too.

No problem, and good luck.
I've been lazy in my studies recently. I want to study PHP and SQL, but I kept losing interest. I'll have to get back to those one day.
I've actually been studying JavaScript and French more.
