Browsers & Updates

This update brought a bunch of UI changes both to the front and developer tools. If you use Firefox, what are your likes and dislikes on the new UI design ?

For me :

I really like the design of the tabs, though I sorta wished they would of kept their rounded look and not disappear completely when not active. You can see the difference below from left to right : Active, Hover, Not active. I'd much rather prefer if the hover design was the not active design.

The menu added is very useful for quickly accessing tools you frequent. It's definitely convenient and easy to customize.

The changes made to the Devtools design is very nice, you can tell the light and dark themes had some changes to their color. This isn't completely UI related, but I like the changes to the style editor. Before when writing properties or values you had to write from memory, now with a new option "Autocomplete CSS" properties, selectors, or values will be filled in as you write. I am probably going to disable this, but it is a great function if you're starting out and can't remember a property name or value, ooooor if you're feeling lazy.

It's a lot more sleek and modern looking, but it's definitely got some things to improve on like what I mentioned with the tabs. I will explore Firefox 29 deeper and see what more I like or dislike.

I use Chrome!
It's always been reliable for me.

I hear Chrome is good however, I'd only use it for testing purposes. I've always loved Firefox for browsing and developing ♥

I too am a chrome user... tried using firefox many times, but never got around it.. i feel like chrome is faster and a very simpler light use for browsing..
Firefox on the other hand f a bit slower comparetively to me, but maybe that's just me

I had to switch to Firefox.. Chrome was failing me. So far I like it though.

I love using Firefox. It has been updated again to 29.0.1.

I really like the new design of it.

Have you updated yours to 45.0?

Yep, I usually go on Firefox once in awhile for testing. Holy cow though, they've made a lot of updates since 29 !

They update too much, then again I'm probably spoiled by Chrome's self-update.

I'm guessing it's a patch if the 3rd number was incremented.

Not sure if any of you heard of it, but there's a new startup called "Brave" that Brendan Eich founded. It's a web browser with built in blockers for intrusive ads and trackers, so if you're using an adblocker I'd recommend giving it a try. Apparently, you'll be able to replace ads with ones you want or block them completely, there's also the option to allow them as well.

I've given it a try so far and it's not too bad ; It's kinda bare-boned at the moment, but it's also pretty fast. I think it came out earlier this year, and I only just heard of it now. Welp, either way it's another browser added to my list ; I made a pyramid.

This sounds very interesting.

There tons of browsers out there, all with slightly different technology. I wish they'd all act the same way when styling my site

Not really a fan of ad blocks, I want to support those ads just by letting them show on my browser.

Yeah, I know. Thankfully today it's not like the times when IE was a major thorn in developers sides. Most browsers are up to par with specs, and a majority use webkit as a base or entirely nowadays ( safari, opera, chrome, brave... ), so most of them are on equal footing in regards to the latest technologies.

I'll be honest that I use them, because I found myself getting intrusive popup ads or ads that opened a new tab to a page I didn't open. I did whitelist sites that I visited often, and knew had reasonable adverts, though. Brave isn't eitrely about blocking ads, but improving the way advertising is done. This post explains the options available and the goal. I'd say what they're going for would improve the way ads work on the internet.

What can I say ? I'm a tad crazy about browsers. I like to try them all.

I just saw a new browser called 'WaterFox'. I heard it's lightning fast and it looks like a stripped down version of FireFox. Does anyone have experience with that one? What's the difference or nexus between WaterFox and FireFox ?

I'm currently running FireFox 64 and Edge 64 on a Windows 10 Pro 64 OS and I like to use FF a lot.

I've never used it before, but it looks like it's built on or based off of the engine Firefox uses. Apparently it's supposed to be faster than Firefox, but I'm not exactly sure by how much.

Personally, I'd say stick with Firefox, because it'll be more widely supported and tested than third-party options.

Hmm... interesting. They mention Pale Moon in one of the articles too. Never heard of Pale Moon either before. Looks like FireFox was first, then Pale Moon and WaterFox is the latest. It's still under development and in a testing phase it seems.

I'm gonna try and find a bit more background info on it. And yeah, I'll be sticking to FF don't worry I was just wondering if anyone had any experience using WaterFox anyway.
