In a few hours the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olymics in Brazil will be opened officially. In this thread you may share your thoughts, shout out publically supporting your favorite sport athletes, teams and share whatever you like (within the site and FM ToS), like interesting facts, figures and articles.

A few figures about these Olympic Games:

It's the first time the Olympic Games are being held in South America;
The opening ceremony will be held @ the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
10,500 athletes from all over the world will try to break Olympic, World, National and Personal Best records;
242 athletes from The Netherlands participate.

Today will be the last day of the Olympics. On the program today are the marathon and boxing.

Next will be the Paralympics, so we'll be keeping this thread for a little bit longer.

Coming from Rio their plane was delayed for about an hour, but now the medalists are facing a detour over The Netherlands with their 777 on top of that, flying low & slow just to show off:

They opened another runway @ Amsterdam Schiphol Airport just for them to land on, firetrucks standing by to greet them. They're just a few miles from where we live. So close I can almost hug 'em and welcome them back home Smile
