[IMPLEMENTED] Custom Emotes
Page 1 of 1 • Share
It'd be so cool if there could be a 'Custom Emoticons' option in the dropdown menu for emoticons :'3
The custom emoticons would be personal to every member and no one else but that member could see them in the smiley box - they will only be seen if that member uses them in a post.
The custom emotes would be uploaded via a URL that the member inserts in a specific field in their "Edit profile" section (Maybe create a new tab that has a textarea for the URL)
I don't know if this would take up space/memory on the forum.. But if it does, maybe limit the amount of custom emoticons a member can upload?
And also restrict this feature to active members so that not everyone will be able to do this.. The requirements could be a certain amount of posts (500 or 1,000 or more) and/or stars and/or a certain award must be in the member's award system before this feature is activated.

It is interesting, but the way Forumotion has it now there is a limit on the number of emotes. Also I believe you are correct that the customized ones will have to be stored somewhere.
@Valoish BRILLIANT IDEA !! I never thought about this before, but it's definitely 100% possible. You could use a profile field that the user can put image links into, then use JavaScript to grab those links from the profile and insert them into the emoticon frame. That'd give the member the freedom to use the emoticons they prefer ! *-*
Okay, I like binge coded this for about the last 3 hours 'cause I loved the idea and figured it'd be super easy to program. Probably gonna set it up soon as a beta test, once I work out some kinks.
This is the UI for the profile field :
and then your personal emoticons will show up at the end of the list :

@Ange Tuteur Damn you're fast x'D Glad you liked the idea!
Looks awesome so far~ ^^ I'll keep an eye out for that beta test
Are you planning to keep this exclusive to FAE once it passes the beta test or will it be applicable to every forum version?

It'll be available for all forum versions. Backwards compatibility is still something I need to check though, before I setup the test.
Thanks for the idea btw.
