Hello there.
Selvester here. I go by Selvester on basically all support forums or anything related to forum promotion/help/other. Really any forum having to do with forums... But I also respond to Selly. On my actual forums however I usually go by the username Fray. That is basically all the variation there is. I can be found as either Selvester or Fray nearly anywhere online. But my whole online existence is basically related to forumotion anyway.

So anyway... I basically live and breath forums... I don't know why but they have always just fascinated me like you wouldn't believe. Seriously forums bring me what is probably an unnatural and unhealthy amount of enjoyment... Which is why finding forumotion about two years ago is probably the greatest thing to ever happen to me. I have tried other free forum sites and whatnot but forumotion is the simplest to use in my opinion though that might also be a little bit because it was the first I found and once I settle... Well I dont like to try new things. But yeah. it's really only been this last year where I have started to really really get into form construction. Kind of teaching myself CSS and HTML. I don't expect I'll ever be that great at it but... just something I enjoy.

But I think that's really enough for now... Basically like every other introduction I post. And I usually stop them there before I really start to rant. Wink

-Selly.

Hi and welcome Selvester ,

I enjoy forums as well, but also liked designing and graphics before I got into coding. I have changed this forum much over time and has basically become my second sandbox for testing.

It is great to see you're into learning HTML and CSS. I first began learning April of this year and have surprised myself with how fast I have improved. Out of them all CSS is mostly my favorite as the amout of things you can do is quite a lot especially when a forum has a great deal of selectors. Wink

If you're interested I found the best source for basic information to be here : http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp

It is what I read up on when I was first starting and mainly focused on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Of course you shouldn't rush, and to get full knowledge of what you learned its best to practice on your forum or a test forum so you can aquaint yourself with the different languages. If you need any help you can feel free to ask. Smile

Have a good evening and see you Smile

Hello and thank you for the welcome Ange. Smile

Yes I am interested in learning it though to be honest I haven't really done much practice or anything for it. Not recently anyway. Looking into taking a class possibly on CSS in a semester or two. Otherwise it has mostly been with HTML for now with just a little bit of CSS. And maybe I'll look into Javascript eventually. Just starting simpler and moving up.

Anyway thank you for the reference link I will definitely have to put aside some time to just look through things there. See you around. Smile

I found the best way to experiment with the style of a document is to use a web developer tool such as one with Firefox or Chrome. I design mostly with firefox since I'm well aquainted with their tools. The devtools should be accesible by clicking F12.

CSS is actually pretty simply :

You have your HTML elements
Code:
<div></div>
<div class="differentdiv"></div>

and then you can style them with CSS :
Code:
div { background:red; }
.differentdiv { background:blue; }

div selects all div elements, whearas .differentdiv only selects elements with the class "differentdiv". Once you grasp the basic concept of CSS it is very easy. Smile

Mm, well it has never really looked particularly hard. I mean I feel like a lot of it just kind of explains it's self... Background. Color. Height. Width. It just seems like there is a lot to it I guess. ^-^

Yep, every property is pretty much self explanatory so it makes styling pretty easy. Smile
