This is not meant for support

So, I've been doing my theme lately, when I was on the Search input part, I found out one thing: Forumotion doesn't use a placeholder, instead, they've used a simple script that does the same thing. I'm new to everything, web development markups and languages, I'm guessing placeholder (or HTML5) didn't existed when the Forumotion started? Can someone confirm this? (I don't even know when was the Forumotion founded, it's not like they have an about page.)

Hello,
You can add the placeholder in the search box very easy.

You can replace your search code:

Code:
<input name="search_keywords" id="keywords" maxlength="128" class="inputbox search" value="Search..." onclick="if (this.value == 'Search...') this.value = '';" onblur="if (this.value == '') this.value = 'Search...';" type="text">

with this code

Code:
<input name="search_keywords" id="keywords" maxlength="128" class="inputbox search" value="Search..." placeholder="Search" onclick="if (this.value == 'Search...') this.value = '';" onblur="if (this.value == '') this.value = 'Search...';" type="text">

Forumotion started way back in the early 2000s. I think 2005 for EN and as early as 2004 for FR. These are just assumptions though, because I'm going off the earliest dates of the archived web pages.

EN :
http://web.archive.org/web/20051018235752/http://www.editboard.com/

FR :
http://web.archive.org/web/20040429162846/https://www.forumactif.com/

Back then HTML5 wasn't a standard. Razz

Thank you Ange! Just as the exact information I'm looking for! It's amazing how HTML5 changes everything.

Yeah, there's some handy dandy tools with HTML5, and the web is just going to keep evolving as well. Naughty
