hello all

i want to suggest a topic rating system ( 3,2,1 stars example)
the original suggestion was made by Sanket in FM and even many members said yes from 2009 until 2016 nothing happened so far FM link
i read inside that some members with coding skills have it already to their forums so its possible

thank you

Thanks for that. Seems like a proper suggestion. Though I haven't done the reading yet, based on what should ratings been given? By polls, posting frequency, thumbs up/down, number of posts?

I love this idea as well~
I read through the FM Thread and I agree with what this person said:
[SUGGESTION] Topic rating system 3bff90ffa8884557b04c2dc55dc471db
Without certain restrictions (such as a minimum post requirement) the feature could be abused to give a certain user, or the forum in general, a bad image. By having a min. post req. the Admins will know that those who are rating the threads are all active members - and not trolls or whoever else that's just being mean :I

I think the easiest method would be to go by the amount of positive + negative votes the first post has achieved, because it's already an existing rating system. Wink

when you open a thread a rate system 5 stars lets say will automatically be on somewhere so members can vote based on the subject of the topic or ...whatever we choose
and maybe we can have the best/hot rated topic based on  posting frequency

I agree, then again, if one's got a lot of friends giving positive votes just BECAUSE they're friends, giving them a certain 'status' just because they can or to keep up appearances. That could result in giving a bad impression to people who don't got loads of friends OR new members or even keep members away that want to sign up.... I've seen this happen before on the old FriendCodes, unfortunately.

That wouldn't be a real 'rating' system then, would it?

Well if it's always positive, I suppose you could just show how many +1's the topic received.

I'm merely thinking of ways to make this a valid suggestion. I'm thinking with you, not against you or your suggestion.

Hmm... perhaps it 'd be an idea to let the admins decide whether a topic is hot or not and have it be rated manually.... Think Then again, rated based on what exactly? View count? Post count? I'm really not sure.

I was thinking more of a 0 - 5 star rating symbol bar (even with partial stars) added to the topics and then have a 0-10 added in the posts, like '8.3 Rating' and a bar or whatever (red (min) to green (max) increments).

My Portuguese isn't that advanced Laughing I better skip reading that if you don't mind. Basically, it all comes down to modelling the lot. What (and, again, based on what) exactly do we want this to work? Then comes the how: the JS (the engine) and CSS (to make it look good). And, don't forget, we've got limited access to the FM db. We need the model first, then we can start writing, and in the end the graphics can be selected or made, but that part is really at the end of all the stages. Personally, I like the rating system on imdb.com , the way they rate movies and all.
