Blue and White
Page 1 of 1 • Share
Hi everyone,
Blue and (off)white.. these two who claimed the throne of web styles. If you think about any "big" site, you will find almost all of them use this combination (Facebook - Twitter - Gmail - Forumotion..etc).
Honestly, they are my favourite too just like many other people. They are elegant, calm and fit all topics (IT - Science - general..etc).
Recently, I decided to get outside this comfort zone and try something different with the same elegant-calm-fitting all option. However, I found it very difficult to make such combination. Even simple things like using pure white for backgrounds or jet black for text seem to be a little bit offensive now!
I started looking at other people's suggestions. There is that sweet site called (Colour Lovers). I also looked at sites helping with Flat and Material designs palettes. Nothing worked for me that much away from Blues and Greys.
In my forums, I use the Blue-Grey with a bit of green and pale yellow. It doesn't look that bad but I was hoping for something better. Any suggestions?
So, what do you guys think?
Green is kinda offensive when put with blue.. but I liked the way it brought happiness to the style. Any other suggestions?BlackScorpion wrote:I think the green you use is too blinding. the Blue and grey is fine and are soothing , but that green really got to go. sorry.
Yes, but using them with what? by themselves is going to be way too simple.Wilson wrote:White and black always get my taste.
Haha true enough, I'm going with blue and white as the main color for the new theme I'm working on, but it's switchable to other colors.
If you're going with a light theme, I'd suggest using low-saturation colors. They're usually easier on the eyes and can be blended easier. I noticed that the yellow stands out a lot on the wrapper. I'd try toning it down a bit with either #FFE or #FFD. They're slightly lighter yellows which aren't as pronounced.
I can't think of too much else at the moment, but you can try the theme switcher here to see if it has any colors you might like ; most are low-saturation.

You are right.. I guess this navigation bar is a disaster then!
Maybe I switch to something more simple like the one here.
OK.. I will try that and see what I can use.
Thanks Ange
