Hello everyone,
Most of us (if not all) are admins of forums or websites.
What are the main 3 tips you would give to us for better activation  and administration of a website?

Share yours and learn from others Wink

I like the way you guys think of providing the forums as a constant strong tool for members.
I was thinking more of providing the content and how users tend to like certain things over others.

Great topics you have there Samantha.. all favored and will use as a reference from time to time.

My sig>> just trying to be nice

Well to get members promotion forums are good. To get them to stay you would be best off creating new content (as in updates) and contests. Make a reason for members to post and they will.

I do agree with you, Forumedic.
Creating new content is a must for us as Arab.. Arab users are about 5% of world total internet users while Arabic content is less than 1%!!

It's alway good to add new content to a forum, but if you watch carefully, those that stay on your forum seem to like the same things.

I know what you mean. The band of users you target should meet the content you provide.
Arab-wise, more than 50% of users are under 21 years old.. that gives you an idea of what sector you should talk to.

Next to the Awards System, I've got a very nice tip for you: unlockables. Forums that will unlock with a certain amount of posts (auto-subscribe group security).

Examples:
- Unlock the Tips & Tricks section after 1,000 posts
- Unlock the Flash Games section after 1,500 posts
- Unlock the Support section after 3,000 posts
- Unlock the VIP section after 5,000 posts

You'll need to have security set up for each group & forum though Wink

So, VIP can access all the forums
Support cannot access the VIP section, but can access the Support, Flash Games and Tips & Tricks sections
etc.

Hello Samantha.

PS: Shouldn't you be changing the topic title from 'Tips for Better Adminstartion' into 'Tips for Better Administration' ?? It almost sounds like 'Admin Starvation'... Laughing Just saying! Smile

lol... sorry, my bad

Yup.. members like to collect stuff.. I think it is the same system that FB games use with the idea of the more friends you have the better chances to get things done.

Good Administration, I believe is about:

-Ensuring a forum or website is maintained to the fullest extent possible
-Making sure the forum is sufficently moderated and well staffed to handle any situation that nay arrive
-Ensuring the forum is promoted in the most places possible and in the best way possible to ensure growth
-Ensuring member suggestions get considered as much as possible
-Ensuring the security of the forum
-Making sure all staff are trained in the tools they need to handle any situation and make sure staff are included in decisions as much as possible and make sure whatever the majority votes, goes. Dictactorships are not fun Razz.
-Make sure the forum is well organized
-Try to add new features whenever possible
-Hold contests when possible
-Keep stay discussions going as often as possible to ensure new ideas for features and stuff get discussed and the forum in general is cared for. If staff in general feel stressed and feel they need a small break from meetings and stuff, grant everyone a small break and make a date for discussions to resume
-Make sure the forum stays active to some extent as much as possible
-Ensure there is enough to stay to handle any tasks in the event the owner is absent for any reason, health, personal, vacation, etc , the forum should not stop running because the owner is not around.

These are my tips and some of the things I try to do on my forum with my staff and administration to try and keep the forum going and keep growing. Smile

Active team.. I guess that is what your tips point to.
I like the idea of having a team working on a website.

I agree with you @HaeDoesGraphics.. Having a team that accepts the administration and vice versa is a very important corner in any website.
Thank you for sharing this with us Smile

My pleasure! From my perspective, as a team, you should be as close to friend as you can be - keep
all things professional when that time comes - and execute as ONE not 7 (or so).

Very happy to share, I wish there were more threads like this. ^^
