[SOLVED] Force a font to be used despite being not installed on someone's PC?
Page 1 of 1 • Share
- GuestGuest
Hehe. Been active in asking questions here. I hope I am not annoying, as I am not that always answered in the support forum.
I was just wondering if, just like websites, forumotion forums can force a font to be used by everyone? I am fascinated with a font named Geneva, and I would like that all users in my forum would be able to use the font despite not being installed in their computers. I know there's a code on how to do that. It's just that I am not educated with the said language.
I'd appreciate help in any form. Thanks!

As a matter of fact you can. Go to www.web-font-generator.com, upload the ttf and embed it into css. Remember that you must have permission from the author to do such action. Upload it where you can. If you want to use a ready-to-use font, Google Font is always there for you.
For the font link:
Now to Admin Panel > Display > Templates > General > overall_header then put the link inside the <head> and you're done.
One last thing actually, go to Display > Pictures and Colors > Colors > Main Font face, then input the name of your font, in your case, I guess it's "Geneva, sans-serif".

- Code:
<link href="font link" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>

Regarding the permission, as I checked it in Font Palace, the license of the font is unknown and has no designer. Am I safe to use that? (Copyright issues, eh?)
Font Palace uploads fonts that are under open source license, not including author and license on Geneva is a bad idea tho. With that in mind, I think it's safe to assume it's allowed to be used as a your main font face.

Well, I just opted to use Google Fonts "just to be really safe." In fact, I found one font that I also liked (Roboto). Thanks again for your reply. It did work on my site.
Google fonts is a good choice, I used it a few times in the past for people who asked this very question.Poser wrote:Well, I just opted to use Google Fonts "just to be really safe." In fact, I found one font that I also liked (Roboto). Thanks again for your reply. It did work on my site.
P.S.
Roboto's awesome, I'm using it for the new theme.
